So I have been thinking about doing some Old Time Photography with props n stuff (Heavy on the Steampunk of course) I have been busy gathering goodies for people to wear, props to hold, scouring ebay for photography items, talking with people who actually do this sort of stuff. I think it would be fun and I wouldn't charge an arm and a leg like the tourist traps do.

Sometimes I can't think outside the box very well. I found a blank journal one of the vendors was giving away up at the energy conference and I decided it would make a great place to start the CQJP thingy....too bad I forgot to take a picture of the blank journal. (My brain still isn't functioning too well after the wreck. I am not physically hurt but mentally I am in shambles.)

Anyways.......... I covered the journal and now I think I will add all my upcoming blocks into it. I can glue a few pages together to make them stronger (something I learned from a book called Altered Art by Terry Taylor I checked out of the library). I can also keep a diary if I so choose. Wow.... a plan. Plans are good.

Two doilies, a cable luxe sweater in aubergine (that's purple for those of you not in the know), some embroidery on a weird hat I did and two pairs of socks (no pictures sorry).

The furry hat is a blend of crewel wool all tied together and fun fur. It's cold, snowy and blowy out I should go try it on for size!

So just when I think things couldn't get any worse....they do. Thursday Jan 5 I was a passenger in a car that got hit going 55 mph by a teenager who dropped her cell phone. Yeah, really.

This is the car I was in. The seat belt locked when Sharie hit the brakes and the seat was scooted back so the airbag didn't get me. I am sore and angry but otherwise unharmed.

Imagine that.

We woke up to bitter cold, wind and the dreaded white stuff, which was NOT in the forecast. I needed to go to get some double fiber bread but I just stayed home, drank coffee, knit an ugly hat and chillaxed.

It's cuter on Miss Sadie but still not pretty LOL! The good news is Deanna got to witness the miracle of felting!

I Have Survived to Write Another Day

Good news! I have made it to my new home in one piece both physically and emotionally. I am still very hurt at the way I was unceremoniously dismissed after an eight year relationship without so much as an inkling of warning. Fine. Whatever. (Dear Jack, You ignored my plea about your psycho kid and his even more psycho friend. I get the fact you want to believe your kid is not damaged but OMG wake up!)

I am glad to report I have my own room, high speed internet and a fairly new computer. I have food,clothing and shelter. I have yarn, crochet thread, crochet hooks and knitting needles, my pattern book, some crazy quilt fabric, some beads and a suitcase full of finished hats, scarves and shawls.

I have the love and support of friends and family here. I mean a LOT of LOVE and SUPPORT!

Now I just need a part time job and a car. And a mild winter LOL!

Well I got my Student of the Month bulletin board done but I forgot to take a picture...I was WIPED OUT by physical labor by the time I got it situated by these:

370+ laptop computers that will be passed out to all freshmen at Wasson HS soon. I helped unpack, open and assemble a fair amount of them. Ugh...after walking to the school because Jack needed the car as his juvenile delinquent of a son got kicked out again. Do not get me started.

I wanted my first Student of the Month board to be somewhat seasonal without being blatantly Halloweenish coz you know how I feel about that. I settled on Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven for my theme because I had those Martha Stewart raven cut outs left over from last year.

I scanned the ravens, and fixed them so they printed out a faint gray. I found the poem and fixed it to print in a brown italic font with Quoth the Raven 'Nevermore' in a different font and in black at the bottom. The kids' pictures went on and their name and class they got the award for. I got some free paper from Xpidex Friday so I used it to mount the ravens since they wouldn't show against the black background of the bulletin board.

I finished up the 2012 Crazy Quilt Challenge quilt! Or rather... I thought I did :|

I showed it at quilt guild and about 5 women told me I needed to do more with the border. As in quilt it. Uh yeah, no I don't think so. Not now at least. I just can't it's too much to think about. Maybe I'll use buttons and bring a little of the embroidery into two opposite corners. But seriously...quilt it? all of it?!? Vintage CQs weren't quilted. I side with Freddie and Gwen on this whole perfect quilt thing. Why does it have to fit someone else's idea of perfect?

Yes, it needs a sleeve and a label. Yes, the brown satin border paired with the backing didn't quite work but if I hadn't quilted in the ditch to satisfy some would-be quilt show rules it might have looked a little better. But no, I don't think I need to quilt the whole dang border. Now if someone had volunteered to do it.. for Free... maybe.

It's sad that things don't always go as planned in your life. A year ago we thought perhaps our money troubles were behind us but, noooooooooooo. The economy picked up just enough to give construction a false hope then tanked again. This past week we had to apply for Public Assistance again in the form of food stamps and even Cash help. Wow. Who knew it could happen? I mean here is what I heard from several people .... "They won't help, so and so tried and they only got like $12" "Good luck with that, they won't help" "You'll be sitting there forever and you won't get anywhere"

I beg to differ. I applied online last Sunday, got phone interview Wednesday, had $400 in food stamps Saturday, got a packet of paperwork to fill out at home and a face to face interview today with a very nice case worker that took about 10 minutes....and ended up with $500 to help with overdue bills.

At some point in my life I would have felt bad about getting this help. But that's why we pay taxes. Even the Bible brings this out in the 13th chapter of Romans.

13 Let every soul be in subjection to the superior authorities, for there is no authority except by God; the existing authorities stand placed in their relative positions by God. 2 Therefore he who opposes the authority has taken a stand against the arrangement of God; those who have taken a stand against it will receive judgment to themselves. 3 For those ruling are an object of fear, not to the good deed, but to the bad. So I'm officially bonkers again. After the Steampunk meetup I was sitting here in the computer room and I kept hearing these strange bumping noises. I got up a couple of times and peeked in at Dakota asleep in his recliner in the living room and at Jack in the bed. I decided it must be Jack tossing and turning again so I let it go.

Fast forward to midnight. Jack's phone rang. I looked at the number. Jennifer/Dalton...whatever... let it ring...Five minutes later it ran again so I answered it thinking maybe it was something serious. Yeah right. It was Dalton wanting to know where Dakota was. Uh, school night, he's in bed. He said "He was supposed to meet me and he didn't and his window isn't open so I know he didn't leave but he's not there" WHAT!?! Yes, he IS here. He insisted I go check, because he didn't believe me. I did...I knew he was back there because he had just got up and went to bed after I turned all the lights on and turned the TV loud to Project Runway (HA!). I told Dalton he was indeed in bed asleep then told him not to call here at midnight anymore. Then I walked my happy ass out to check the window...yep open just a crack. Hmmmm...could it be that Dalton was the one making the noise earlier?

Dang...now I had to pee. I went to the bathroom and about peed straight down my leg. The freaking screen to the window had been punched all the way in towards the shower stall. We had the window open since it was so nice out. I saw RED!!! The little bastard attempted to come in the bathroom window! I am so gonna pop a cork to Jack tomorrow.....

Calmed down, sat back down, picked up knitting, settled in to watch the cat fights between designers.

Saw Dakota's light come on, his door open and him standing there looking at me. he turned and went into the bathroom and came right back out. As soon as he shut his door I hopped up and went in...Yep he "Fixed" the screen. No way Jose. I "RE-FIXED" it the way it was and woke Jack up. I went back outside and behold, the window is now WIDE OPEN! I knew Dalton was in the room with Dakota. Too many coincidences. Jack didn't want to get up but I told him (very loudly) GET UP OR I'M CALLING THE POLICE! I showed him the window, told my story of weird noises and phone calls and he tried to get into Dakota's room. Locked...hmmmm interesting. Popped the lock and wow Dakota had gone soundly back to sleep in the course of two minutes with me shouting right next to his room. Unlikely.

A few minutes later the neighbor's dog went nuts so we figured Dalton had made his escape. Once again I kicked myself for not moving the cactus over in front of the window to give him a little surprise when he fled. Evidently I don't think well at 1 AM under stress.

Jack jumped Dakota's case again this morning. After he left for school (yeah right...whole other rant there per the calls from counselling saying he has been absent most of the week) we proceeded to lock his windows and take the window cranks off just like we did when Marena still lived here and she was pulling her crap. It was satisfying even though we know it will be for naught sooner or later. Jack already has a new plan up his sleeve involving camouflage clothing and shadows and blah blah blah...I can't divulge too much ya understand...

If you are wondering why we don't just make Dakota go live with his mom, we need him here to keep our state benefits until Jack gets back to work again. After that I foresee a long and quite life without him.

In honor of Labor Day Jack and I worked our butts off today. I know it's supposed to be a day off but since we seem to have too many days off we cleaned instead. Here's Jack's toys all dust free and in a new place so he can see them. (They were on the window sill but we keep the blinds closed.)

I will be going up to Loveland, CO to visit with my BFF Sharie for a few days. I don't know if I will have internet up there and while usually I am able to have some auto posts to keep you amused, this time I don't.

I have been working on pulling half dead flowers, finishing my masterpiece quilt and wrapping up some knitting projects but I haven't been taking any pictures to prove any of this. Perhaps I will do better after this much needed vacation.

Oh those lovely coincidences. I get such a thrill when it happens.

Today I present for you "The Robin Hood Coincidence". It happened at the old Penrose Hospital which is now an Urgent Care facility. Dakota had a boil that needed lanced (gross!) and his regular doctors couldn't fit him in so after a two hour search we landed at this place.

I was looking at a magazine in between rows of knitting and found this:

So what's the coincidence you may ask?

I was knitting with yarn from NOTTINGHAM ENGLAND!!!! I kid you not. My friend, Jaine, who lives there now, sent it to me a few months back.

Here's the shawl at the Tea house for the Steampunk meeting a couple of weeks ago.

Jaine insists that Robin Hood is a myth. We all know better don't we? (Wow, I think I've said that before)

This is the yarn (and candy) as it came to me. I am making Elizabeth Zimmerman's Pi Shawl. (Note, my shawl is not round and it's not lace. I got my pattern from an old Vogue knitting mag.)

Today I went looking for knit interfacing for my crazy quilt blocks as per the recommendations of several professional art quilters in my Yahoo groups. They didn't have it at Hobby Lobby so we made the trip east to JoAnn's. Ugh. I caved on the beads. They were just the shade of funky blue for my magnum opus* teal/peacock/gold quilt. It's like the Bible. God had the inspired writers tell of the bad as well as the good things that happened. This is my bad thing lol. At least I'm not melting them down into a golden calf.

I also needed those plastic flowers for my quilt, I swear I did.

I am actually doing this to steer your attention away from the fact that I BOUGHT FABRIC at Walmart today...I needed it for the binding on my big 2012 CQ challenge quilt, the peacock blue one. I have the backing and border fabrics but I couldn't come up with a binding fabric from my stash. Yes, I bought it. It felt damn good too.

A good time was had by all. I will definitely go back again some day.

It's been a longgggggggggggggg time coming but I have crossed another project off my list. The Pink and Black CQ is officially DONE!

I have to admit that I bought the pink and the black and white fabrics but this is a paying custom order. I did however use up a lot of my stash on the backing and I pieced together some batting I had left over from the batiks quilt.

I had an extra block so I made a pillow cover to go with.

Travel back with me to time not so long ago but very far away, 2005. A year of changes.In January I almost died. In April I took a trip that ultimately resulted in my moving to Colorado. The year of Hurricanes, most notably Katrina.

The first year I watched American Idol. I did not want Carrie Underwood to win. I wanted Bo Bice to win. He did not. She did.

Today by chance I heard the Bo Bice would be playing at Spring Spree at 3 PM. I begged Jack for a ride and got there in the nick of time. My old PTA president was there by herself too....perfect.

Bo Bice was good. Right up till the end when he said he was happy to have been in Denver LOL!

This is the equivalent of clapping in camfrog, a thumbs up.
