Fun at the Gordyville Flea Market

Sharie picked me up at the Chinese restaurant and took me to Gordyville, a big indoor flea market today. There weren't a whole awful lot of vendors but we saw some cool stuff.

I also got a Brownie camera for my photo booth and I bought the vintage doily you see here.

Starching and Stretching A Doily

I finished a doily while sitting at the hospital with a friend today. I decided to have Sadie help me starch and pin it out while photographing.

I used just a touch of water in some Sta-Flo starch. Squeeze mixture through doily and then squeeze it back out. Spread out on table or in this case, a doily board. Pin evenly around, pulling out points. Let dry.

It will look something like this when finished. (Same pattern different color configuration)

Trying to Get a Plan

Wow what a week! The orders came in along with the cold weather. I added more items in my online stores, took a day off to go to Springfield and tried again to clean my room (fail). Here's what I am working on:

1. Three slouch beanies to go to Canada (eh) I did the prototypes and while I thought they would just take those nooooooooooooooo they want black acrylic. Eeeek!
2. No less than 6 owl hats for adults
3. Making pins from flowers I have been doing from scrap yarns (see pics)
4. A pink and black crochet hat with a large flower for Sharie's grand daughter
5. More black and orange doilies (see pics)

That's about it and trust me that's enough. I'm thinking two weeks at least.

100 Days of Doilies Day 100

Wow I did it! 100 Days of doilies, some old some new, some tattered and torn. I am finishing up with the piece I use as my blog header.

I bought this at a second hand store soon after I moved back to Illinois. I paid $3. It was probably intended to be alter lace or at least an edge on a runner of some sort. I adore it.

Tomorrow I will do a giveaway of one of the doilies featured here over the past 100 days. Grab the kids and tell the neighbors!!!

The next to the last doily in this series is one of my favs! It's another wedding cake lace this time in burgundy and ecru. Yummy!

Well that was fun (not). Nothing like death to totally throw your schedule off kilter for a week.

I made this one in the 90's. I like the pattern. I think I'll make some more!

RIP Benny Combs

No doilies today. My ex husband, Benny Combs, passed away yesterday. He never thought much of my crocheting. He did play a mean guitar though.

Right before I kicked his sorry butt out of my life back in 2001 I made him one last quilt. He used it until he died and he even said he wanted to be buried with it (or at least that's what I was told. I looked at the quilt Saturday when I went to see him but I don't have a picture of it. Maybe my kids do somewhere.

100 Days of Doilies Day 97

Hey I found it! This is the FIRST knitted doily I did back in Colorado. So nice to see it again! It was quite difficult to get the hang of doing this. That makes the Chinese ones even more $%#@&. Knowing the degree of difficulty and the small price paid for doing it.

OMG! these little oval doilies! I made dozens and dozens of them in every color you can imagine. I found the pattern the other day so there  may be more to come.
